בָּרוּךְ יְיָ הַמְּבֹרָךְ לְעוֹלָם וָעֶד.

Blessed are you, Adonai our God, Ruler of the universe, who forms light and creates darkness, who makes peace and creates all things:

All shall thank you, and all shall praise you, and all shall say, There is none holy like Adonai. All shall extol you forever, you Creator of all things, O God who opens every day the door of the gates of the East, and cleaves the windows of the firmament, leading forth the sun from its place, and the moon from its dwelling, giving light to the whole world and to its inhabitants whom you created by the attribute of mercy. In mercy you gave light to the earth and to them that dwell thereon, and in your goodness renew the creation every day continually; O Sovereign, who alone was exalted from aforetime, praised, glorified and extolled from days of old. O everlasting God, in your abundant mercies, have mercy upon us, God of our strength, Rock of our stronghold, Shield of our salvation, you Stronghold of ours! There is none to be compared unto you, neither is there any beside you; there is none but you: (Reader) There is none to be compared unto you, O Adonai our God, in this world, neither is there any beside you, O our Ruler, for the life of the world to come; there is none but you, O our Redeemer, for the days of the Messiah; neither is there any like unto you, O our Savior, for the revival of the dead.

Hakol yoducha, v'hakol y'shab'chucha, v'hakol yomru, ein kadosh k'Adonai. Hakol y'rom'mucha selah, yotzeir hakol. Ha-eil hapotei-ach b’chol yom daltot sha-arei mizrach, uvokei-a chalonei raki-a, motzi chamah mim'komah, ul'vanah mim'chon shivtah, umeiir la-olam kulo ul'yosh'vav, shebara b'midat harachamim. Hameiir la-aretz v'ladarim aleha b'rachamim. Uv'tuvo m'chadeish b’chol yom tamid ma-aseih v'reishit. Hamelech hamromam l'vado mei-az, hamshubach v'hamfoar v'hamitnasei mimot olam. Ein k'erkecha v'ein zulatecha, efes biltecha, umi domeh lach. Ein k'erk'cha, Adonai eloheinu, ba-olam hazeh, v'ein zulat'cha malkeinu l'chayei ha-olam haba. Efes bilt'cha goaleinu limot hamashi-ach, v'ein domeh l'cha moshi-einu litchiyat hameitim.

God, the Master of all works is ever to be blessed by the mouth of everything that has breath. God’s greatness and goodness fill the universe, surrounded by knowledge and understanding. God is exalted above everything else holy and is adorned in glory above the celestial chariot. Purity and integrity lie before God’s throne, lovingkindness and tender mercy before glory. The luminaries that God created are good: they were formed with knowledge, understanding and discernment. God gave them might and power to rule in the midst of the world. They are full of luster, and they radiate brightness: beautiful is their lustre throughout all the world. They rejoice in their commencement, and are glad in their returning; they perform with awe the will of their Master. Glory and honour they render unto God’s Name, exultation and rejoicing at the fame of God’s sovereignty. God called unto the sun, and it shone forth in light: God looked, and ordained the figure of the moon. All the hosts on high render praise unto God, the Seraphim, the Ophanim and the holy Chayoth ascribing glory and greatness.

To the God who rested from all works, and on the seventh day was exalted and sat upon a throne of glory. With beauty the day of rest was robed, and called the Sabbath day a delight. This is the great distinction of the Sabbath day, that God rested thereon from all work, when the Sabbath day itself offered praise and said “A Psalm, a song of the Sabbath day, It is good to give thanks unto Adonai”. Therefore let all God's creatures glorify and bless God; let them render praise, honor and greatness to the God and Sovereign who is Creator of all things, and who, in holiness, gives an inheritance of rest to the people of Israel on the holy Sabbath day. Your Name, O Adonai our God, shall be hallowed, and your fame, O our Ruler, shall be proclaimed in heaven above and on the earth beneath. Be you blessed, O our Savior, for the excellency of your handiwork, and for the bright luminaries which you have made: they shall glorify you for ever.

May you be blessed, our Rock, our Ruler and Redeemer, Creator of holy ones. May your name be praised forever, our Sovereign, creator of ministering angels. All of whose ministering angels stand at the summit of the universe and proclaim -- with awe, together, loudly -- the words of the living God and Ruler of universe. (Reader) They are all beloved, they are all flawless, they are all mighty, they all do the will of their Maker with dread and reverence. And they all open their mouths in holiness and purity, in song and hymn, and bless, praise, glorify, revere, sanctify, and declare the sovereignty of --

The Name of the Divine Ruler, the great, mighty and dreaded One, holy is God; and they all take upon themselves the yoke of the kingdom of heaven one from the other, and give leave one unto the other to declare the holiness of their Creator: (Reader) in tranquil joy of spirit, with pure speech and holy melody they all respond in unison, and exclaim with awe:
HOLY, HOLY, HOLY IS ADONAI OF HOSTS: THE WHOLE EARTH IS FULL OF GOD'S GLORY.
(Reader) And the Ophanim and the holy Chayot with a noise of great rushing, upraising themselves towards the Seraphim, thus over against them offer praise and say:
BLESSED BE THE GLORY OF ADONAI FROM GOD'S PLACE.

To the blessed God they offer melodious strains; to the Ruler, the living and ever-existing God, they utter hymns and make their praises heard; for God alone works mighty deeds, and makes new things; God is the Ruler over struggle, sowing righteousness, and reaping victory. God creates healing, and is revered in praises. Adonai is the God of wonders, who in goodness renews the creation every day continually; as it is said, (O give thanks) to God that makes great lights, for God's lovingkindness endures for ever. (Reader) O cause a new light to shine upon Zion, and may we all be worthy soon to enjoy its brightness. Blessed are you, Adonai, Creator of the luminaries.

אֶת שֵׁם הָאֵל, הַמֶּלֶךְ הַגָּדוֹל, הַגִּבּוֹר וְהַנּוֹרָא, קָדוֹשׁ הוּא. וְכֻלָּם מְקַבְּלִים עֲלֵיהֶם עֹל מַלְכוּת שָׁמַיִם זֶה מִזֶּה, וְנוֹתְנִים רְשׁוּת זֶה לָזֶה, (Reader) לְהַקְדִּישׁ לְיוֹצְרָם בְּנַֽחַת רֽוּחַ, בְּשָׂפָה בְרוּרָה וּבִנְעִימָה, קְדֻשָּׁה כֻּלָּם כְּאֶחָד עוֹנִים וְאוֹמְרִים בְּיִרְאָה:

Sh'ma שמע

The first line of the Sh'ma is recited out loud and in unison, with the right hand covering the eyes.

Hear, O Israel: Adonai is our God, Adonai is one.

Sh'ma Yisra-eil, Adonai Eloheinu Adonai Echad.

שְׁמַע יִשְׂרָאֵל, יְיָ אֱלֹהֵינוּ, יְיָ אֶחָד.

In an undertone:

Blessed is God’s glory forever and ever.]

And you shall love Adonai your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might. And these words, which I command you this day, shall be upon your heart: and you shall teach them diligently unto your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up. And you shall bind them for a sign upon your hand, and they shall be for frontlets between your eyes. And you shall write them upon the door-posts of your house, and upon your gates.

And it shall come to pass, if you shall hearken diligently unto my commandments which I command you this day, to love Adonai your God, and to serve God with all your heart and with all your soul, that I will give the rain of your land in its season, the former rain and the latter rain, that you may gather in your corn, and your wine, and your oil. And I will give grass in thy field for your cattle, and you shall eat and be satisfied. Take heed to yourselves, lest your heart be deceived, and you turn aside, and serve other gods, and worship them; and the anger of Adonai be kindled against you, and God shut up the heaven, that there be no rain, and that the land yield not her fruit; and you perish quickly from off the good land which Adonai gave you. Therefore shall you lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul; and you shall bind them for a sign upon your hand, and they shall be for frontlets between your eyes. And you shall teach them your children, talking of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up. And you shall write them upon the doorposts of your house, and upon your gates: that your days may be multiplied, and the days of your children, upon the land which Adonai swore unto your ancestors to give them, as the days of the heavens above the earth.

And Adonai spoke to Moses, saying. Speak to the children of Israel, and bid them that they make them a fringe upon the corners of their garments throughout their generations, and that they put upon the fringe of each corner a cord of blue: and it shall be for you for a fringe, that you may look upon it, and remember all the commandments of Adonai, and do them: and that you go not about after your own heart and your own eyes, after which you go astray: that you may remember and do all my commandments, and be holy unto your God. I am Adonai your God, who brought you out of the Land of Egypt, to be your God: I am Adonai your God.

V'hayah im shamoa tishm'u el mitzvotai, asher anochi m'tzaveh etchem Hayom, l'ahavah et Adonai eloheichem ul'ov'do, b'chol l'vavchem uv'chol nafsh'chem. V'natati m'tar artz'chem b'ito, yoreh umalkosh, v'asafta d'ganecha v'tirosh'cha v'yitzharecha. V'natati eisev b'sad'cha livhemtecha, v'achalta v'sava'ta. Rise for Aleinu.

It is customary to bow at “va-anachnu korim” and stand up at “modim.”

It is our duty to praise the Ruler of all things, to ascribe greatness to the One who formed the world in the beginning. So we bend the knee and offer worship and thanks before the supreme Sovereign of sovereigns, the Holy One, who stretched forth the heavens and laid the foundations of the earth, the seat of whose glory is in the heavens above, and the residence of whose might is in the loftiest heights. Adonai is our God; there is none else: in truth Adonai is our Ruler; there is none else; as it is written in the Torah: “And you shall know this day, and lay it to your heart, that Adonai is God in heaven above and upon the earth beneath: there is none else."

We therefore place our hope in You, Adonai our God, that we may speedily behold the glory of Your might, when You will purify the earth, and righteousness will dominate. When the world will be perfected under the rule of the Almighty, and all the world’s children will call Your Name. When You will turn to Yourself all the evil-doers upon earth. Let all the inhabitants of the world perceive and know that to You every knee must bow, every tongue must swear allegiance. Before You, Adonai our God, let them bow and worship, and to Your glorious Name let them give honor. Let them all accept You and have You reign over them speedily, and forever and ever. The dominion is Yours, and for all eternity You will reign in glory. Mourner's Kaddish קדיש יתום

In some communities, only those in mourning or observing a yartzheit stand and recite the Mourner’s Kaddish. However, particularly since the Holocaust, some communities have developed the practice of everyone present reciting the Kaddish on behalf of those who have no one left to say Kaddish for them.

Therefore, each individual should stand or sit as is their personal custom.

You are the Eternal God who ruled before the creation. At the time Your will directly determined what occurred, You were already ruling.

Adon olam asher malach, b'terem kol y'tzir nivra. L'eit na-asah v'cheftzo kol, azai melech sh'mo nikra.

אֲדוֹן עוֹלָם אֲשֶׁר מָלַךְ,
בְּטֶרֶם כָּל יְצִיר נִבְרָא.
לְעֵת נַעֲשָׂה בְחֶפְצוֹ כֹּל,
אֲזַי מֶלֶךְ שְׁמוֹ נִקְרָא.

And when all else has failed,
You will still reign majestically.

V'acharei kichlot hakol, l'vado yimloch nora. V'hu hayah, v'hu hoveh, v'hu yihyeh, b'tifarah.

וְאַחֲרֵי כִּכְלוֹת הַכֹּל,

You are only One. You do not rely upon or compare with any other. You exist without beginning or end. You know power that cannot be seen or experienced elsewhere.

l'hamshil lo l'hachbirah.
B'li reishit b'li tachlit,
v'lo ha-oz v'hamisrah.

וְהוּא אֶחָד וְאֵין שֵׁנִי,
לְהַמְשִׁיל לוֹ לְהַחְבִּֽירָה.
בְּלִי רֵאשִׁית בְּלִי תַכְלִית,
וְלוֹ הָעֹז וְהַמִּשְׂרָה.

You are my God. You are my Redeemer; my Rock when I am distressed; my confidence; my protection; my aide when I call on You.

V'hu eili v'chai goali,
v'tzur chevli b'eit tzarah.
V'hu nisi umanos li,
m'nat kosi b'yom ekra.

וְהוּא אֵלִי וְחַי גֹּאֲלִי,
וְצוּר חֶבְלִי בְּעֵת צָרָה.
וְהוּא נִסִּי וּמָנוֹס לִי,
מְנָת כּוֹסִי בְּיוֹם אֶקְרָא.

I place my soul in Your hands and trust You with it night and day. I also entrust You with my body. When I have Adonai, I shall never fear.

B'yado afkid ruchi,
b'eit ishan v'a'irah.
V'im ruchi g'viyati,
Adonai li v'lo ira.

בְּיָדוֹ אַפְקִיד רוּחִי,
בְּעֵת אִישַׁן וְאָעִירָה.
