Shacharit Morning Prayers

Mah Tovu

“Mah Tovu” is a song meant to express your gratitude for being able to join in prayer. It is a sign of reverence and appreciation for the house of prayer.

How good are your tents, O Jacob, your dwelling places, O Israel! As for me, in the abundance of Your love, I will enter Your house: I will worship toward Your holy temple out of reverence for You. Adonai, I love residing in Your house, and the place where Your glory dwells. I will worship and bow down: I will bend my knee before Adonai, my Maker. May my prayer to You, Adonai, be acceptable: God, in the abundance of Your lovingkindness, answer me with the truth of Your salvation.

Adon Olam

You are the Eternal God who ruled before the creation. At the time Your will directly determined what occurred, You were already ruling.

And when all else has failed, You will still reign majestically. You were, You are, You will be in glory.

You are only One. You do not rely upon or compare with any other. You exist without beginning or end. You know power that cannot be seen or experienced elsewhere.

You are my God. You are my Redeemer; my Rock when I am distressed; my confidence; my protection; my aide when I call on You.

I place my soul in Your hands and trust You with it night and day. I also entrust You with my body. When I have Adonai, I shall never fear.

Blessing Upon Arising

Blessed are You, Adonai our God, Ruler of the universe, who has formed humankind in wisdom and created in humankind many passages and vessels. It is well known before Your glorious throne, that if but one of these be opened, or one of those be closed, it would be impossible to exist and stand before You. Blessed are You, Adonai, who is the wondrous healer of all flesh.

Sh'ma Yisrael

Hear, O Israel, Adonai our God, Adonai is One.
Praised be God’s name forever and ever.

V'Ahavta

And you shall love Adonai your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might. And these words, which I command you this day, shall be upon your heart: and you shall teach them diligently unto your children, and shalt talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk on the way, and when you lie own, and when you rise up. And you shall bind them for a sign upon your hand, and they shall be for frontlets between your eyes. And you shall write them on the door-posts of your house, and upon your gates.

You were the same before the world was created; you have been the same since the world was been created; you are the same in this world, and you will be the same in the world to come. Sanctify your Name upon them that sanctify it, yes, sanctify your Name throughout your world; and through your saving power raise up and uphold our strength. Blessed are you, Adonai, who sanctifies your Name before the whole world.

You are Adonai our God in heaven and on earth, and in the highest heavens. Of a truth you are the first and you are the last, and beside you there is no God. O gather them that hope in you from the four corners of the earth. Let all the inhabitants of the world perceive and know that you are God, you alone, over all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is therein; and which among all the works of your hands, whether among those above or among those beneath, can say unto you, What do you do? Our Parent who is in heaven, deal kindly with us for the sake of your great Name by which we are called; and fulfill unto us, Adonai our God, that which is written, [Zephaniah 3.20] At that time will I bring you in, and at that time will I gather you; for I will make you a name and a praise among all the peoples of the earth, when I bring back your captivity before your eyes, says Adonai.

Vayidaber Adonai El Moshe

God spoke to Moses saying: Make a laver of copper, and its base of copper, for washing; and place it between the Tent of Appointment and the Altar and put water there. Aaron and his sons are to wash their hands and feet from it. when they arrive at the Tent of Appointment they are to wash with water so that they do not die, or when they approach the Altar to serve, to burn a fire-offering to God. they are to wash their hands and feet so that they do not die; and this shall be an eternal decree for them -- for him and his offspring -- throughout their generations.

Vayidaber Adonai...Tzav Et Aharon

God spoke to Moses saying: Instruct Aaron and his sons saying: This is the teaching of the elevation-offering, it is the elevation-offering that stays on the pyre on the Altar all night until morning, and the fire of the Altar should be kept burning on it. The Priest should don his linen garment, and he is to don linen breeches upon his flesh; he is to puck up the ashes of what the fire consumed of the elevation-offering upon the Altar and place it next to the Altar. Then he should remove his garments and don other garments; then he should remove the ashes to the outside of the camp to a pure place. The fire on the Altar shall be kept burning on it, it may not be extinguished, and the Priest shall burn wood upon it every morning. He is to prepare the elevation-offering upon it and burn upon it the fats of the peace-offerings. A permanent fire should remain burning on the Altar; it may not be extinguished.

Vayidaber Adonai...T'zav et B'nei Yisrael

And Adonai spoke unto Moses, saying, Command the children of Israel, and say unto them, My oblation, my food for my offerings made by fire, of a sweet aroma unto me, shall you observe to offer unto me in its due season. And you shall say unto them, This is the offering made by fire which you shall offer unto God; he-lambs of the first year without blemish, two day by day, for a daily burnt offering. The one lamb you shall offer in the morning, and the other lamb you shall offer at evening; and the tenth part of an ephah of fine flour for a meal offering, mingled with the fourth part of an hin of beaten oil. It is a continual burnt offering, which was ordained in mount Sinai for a sweet aroma, an offering made by fire unto God. And the drink offering thereof shall be the fourth part of an hin for the one lamb: in the holy place you shall pour out a drink offering of strong drink unto God. And the other lamb you shall offer at evening: as the meal offering of the morning, and as the drink offering thereof, you shall offer it, an offering made by fire, of a sweet aroma unto God.

V'shachat Oto

He is to slaughter it on the north side of the Altar before God, and Aaron's sons the Priests are to dash its blood upon the Altar all around.

It is you, Adonai, our God, before whom our ancestors burned the incense-spices in the time when the Holy Temple stood, as you commanded them through Moses your prophet, as it is written in your Torah:

Vayomer Adonai El Moshe Kach

God said to Moses: Take yourself spices -- Stacte, onycha, and galbanum -- spices and pure frankincense; they are all to be of equal weight. You are to make it into incense, a spice-compound, the handiwork of an expert spice-compounder, thoroughly mixed, pure and holy. You are to grind some of it finely and place some of it before the Testimony in the Tent of Appointment, where I shall designate a time to meet you; it shall be a holy of holies for you.
It is also written: Aaron shall burn upon it the incense-spices every morning; when he cleanse the lamps he is to bun it. And when Aaron ignites the lamps in the afternoon, he is to burn it, as a continual incense before God throughout your generations.

The rabbis taught: How is the incense mixture formulated? Three hundred sixty-eight maneh were in it: maneh for each day, half in the morning and half in the afternoon; and three extra maneh, from which the Kohen Gadol would bring both his handfuls on Yom Kippur. He would return them to the mortar on the day before Yom Kippur, and grind them exceptionally fine. The compound forming the incense consisted of balm, mocha, laudanum and frankincense, in quantities weighing seventy manehs each; of myrrh, cassia, spikenard and saffron, each sixteen manehs by weight; of costus twelve, of aromatic bark three, and of cinnamon nine manehs; of lye obtained from a species of leek, nine kabs; of Cyprus wine three seahs and three kabs: though, if Cyprus wine was not procurable, old white wine might be used: of salt of Sodom the fourth part of a kab, and of the herb Maaleh Ashan a minute quantity. R. Nathan says, a minute quantity was also required of the odoriferous herb Cippath, that grew on the banks of the Jordan; if, however, one added honey to the mixture, he rendered the incense unfit for sacred use, while he who, in preparing it, omitted one of its necessary ingredients, was liable to the penalty of death.

Rabban Simeon, son of Gamaliel, says the balm is a resin that exudes from the wood of the balsam tree. The lye obtained from a species of leek was rubbed over the onycha to improve it, while the Cyprus wine was used to steep it in, so that its odor might be more pungent. Even though urine is more suitable for that, nevertheless, they do not bring urine into the Temple out of respect.

It is taught, Rabbi Nassan says: As one would grind [the incense] another would say, 'Grind thoroughly, thoroughly grind,' because the sound is beneficial for the spices. If one mixed it in half-quantities, it was fit for use, but as to a third or a quarter -- we have not heard the law. Rabbi Yehudah said: This is the general rule -- In its proper proportion, it is fit for use in half the full amount; but if he left out any one of its spices, he is liable to the death penalty.

It is taught: Bar Kappara says: Once every sixty or seventy years, the accumulated leftovers reached half the yearly quantity. Bar Kappara taught further:Had one put a kortov of fruit-honey into it? Because the torah says: 'For any leaven or any fruit-honey, you are not to burn from them a fire-offering to God.'

[The following three verses are repeated three times each.]

God, Master of Legions, is with us, a stronghold for us is in the God of Jacob, Selah!
God, Master of Legions, praiseworthy is the person who trusts in you
God, save! May the Ruler answer us on the day we call!

You are a shelter for me; from distress you preserve me; with glad song of rescue, you envelop me, Selah! May the offering of Judah and Jerusalem be pleasing to God, as in days of old and in former years.

Abaye listed the order of the Altar service based on the tradition and according to Abba Shaul: The arrangement of the large pyre for the incense-offering; the secondary pure of the incense-offering precedes the placement of two logs; the placement of two logs precedes the removal of ashes from the Inner Altar; the removal of ashes from the Inner Altar precedes the cleaning of five lamps [of the Menorah]; the cleaning of the five lamps precedes the [dashing of the] blood of the continual offering; the blood of the continual offering precedes the cleaning of the [other[ two lamps; the cleaning of the two lamps precedes the incense; the incense precedes the [burning of the] limbs; the limbs precede the meal-offering; the meal-offering precedes the bowls [of frankincense]; the bowls precede the afternoon continual offering, for it is said: 'And he is to arrange the elevation-offering upon it and burn the fats of the peace-offerings upon it,' -- 'upon it' you are to complete all the day's offerings.

Be beg you! With the strength pf your right hand's greatness, untie the bundled sins. Accept the prayer of Your nation; strengthen us, purify us, O Awesome One. Please, O Strong One, those who foster Your Oneness, guard them like the pupil of an eye. Bless them, purify them, show them pity, may Your righteousness always recompense them. Powerful Holy One with your abundant goodness guide your congregation. One and only Exalted One, turn to your nation, which proclaims your holiness. Accept our entreaty and hear our cry, O Knower of mysteries. Blessed is the name of God's glorious Kingdom for all eternity.

On the Sabbath day [the mussaf-offering is]: two male first-year lambs, unblemished; two tenth-ephah of fine flour for a meal-offering, mixed with olive oil, and its wine-libation. The elevation offering of the Sabbath myst be on its particular Sabbath, in addition to the continual elevation-offering and its wine-libation.

[1] What is the location of teh offerings? [Regarding] the most holy offerings, their slaughter is in the north. The slaughter of the bull and the he-goat of Yom Kippur is in the north and the reception of their blood in a service-vessel is in the north. Their blood requires sprinkling between the poles of the Holy Ark and toward the Curtain of the Holy of Holies and upon the Golden Altar. Every one of these applications of blood is essential. The leftover blood he would pour onto the western base of the Outer Altar; but if he failed to apply the leftover blood on the base, he has not prevented atonement.

[2] Regarding the bulls that are completely burned and he-goats that are completely burned, their slaughter is in the north and the reception of their blood in a service-vessel is in the north. Their blood requires sprinkling toward the Curtain and upon the Golden Altar. Every one of these applications is essential. The leftover blood he would pour onto the western base of the Outer Altar; but if he failed to apply it, he has not prevented atonement. Both these and those are burned in the place where the ashes are deposited.

[3] Regarding sin-offerings of the community and of the individual -- the communal sin-offerings are the following: the he-goats of Rosh Chodesh and festivals -- their slaughter is in the north and the reception of their blood in a service-vessel is in the north. Their blood requires four applications one on each of the four corners of the Altar. How is it done? He ascended the ramp, turned to the surrounding ledge and arrived at the southeast corner, the northeast, the northwest, and the southwest. The leftover blood he would pour out on the southern base. They are eaten within the Courtyard curtains, by males of the priesthood, prepared in any manner, on the same day and that night until midnight.

[4] The elevation-offering is among the most holy offerings. Its slaughter is in the north and the reception of its blood is in a service-vessel is in the north. its blood requires two applications that are equivalent to four. It requires flaying and dismemberment and it is entirely consumed by the fire.

[5] Regarding communal peace-offerings and personal guilt-offerings -- the guilt-offerings are as follows: the guilt-offering for thefts, the guilt-offering for misuse of sacred objects, the guilt-offering for violating a betrothed maidservant, the guilt-offering of at Nazirite, the guilt-offering of a metzora, and a guilt-offering in case of doubt -- their slaughter is in the north and the reception of their blood in a service-vessel is in the north. Their blood requires two applications that are equivalent to four. They are eaten within the Courtyard curtains, by males of the priesthood, prepared in any manner, on the same day and that night until midnight.

[6] The thanksgiving-offering and the ram of a Nazirite are offerings of lesser holiness. Their slaughter is anywhere in the Courtyard, and their blood requires two applications that are equivalent to four. They are eaten throughout the City [of Jerusalem] by anyone, prepared in any manner, on the same day and that night until midnight. The priestly portion separated from them is treated like them, except that that portion may be eaten only by the priests, their wives, children, and slaves.

[7] The peace-offerings are offerings of lesser holiness. Their slaughter is anywhere in the courtyard, and their blood requires two applications that are equivalent to four. They are eaten throughout the City [of Jerusalem] by anyone, prepared in any manner, for two days and one night. The priestly portion separated from them is treated like them, except that that portion may be eaten only by the priests, their wives, children and slaves.

[8] The firstborn and thith of animals and the Pesach-offering are offerings of lesser holiness. Their slaughter is anywhere in the Courtyard, and their blood requires a single application, provided he applies it above the base. They differ in their consumption: The firstborn is eaten by priests, and the tithe by anyone. They are eaten throughout the City of Jerusalem, prepared in any manner, for two days and one night. The Pesach-offering is eaten only at night and it may be eaten only until midnight; it may be eaten only by those registered for it; and it may be eaten only if roasted.

Rabbi Yishmael says: Through thirteen rules is the Torah elucidated; (1) Through a conclusion inferred from a lenient law to a strict one, and vice versa; (2) through tradition that similar words in different contexts are meant to clarify one another; (3) through a general principle derived from one verse, and a general principle derived from two verses; (4) through a general statement limited by a specification; (5) through a specification broadened by a general statement; (6) through a general statement followed by a specification followed, in turn, by another general statement -- you may only infer whatever is similar to the specification; (7) when a general statement requires a specification or a specification requires a general statement to clarify its meaning; (8) anything that was included in a general statement, but was then singled out from the general statement in order to teach something, was not singled out to teach only about itself, but to apply its teaching to the entire generality; (9) anything that was included in a general statement, but was then singled out to discuss a provision similar to the general category, has been singled out to be more lenient rather than more severe; (10) anything that was included in a general statement, but was then singled out to discuss a provision not similar to the general category, has been singled out both to be more lenient and more severe; (11) anything that was included in a general statement, but was then singled out to be treated as a new case, cannot be returned to its general statement unless Scripture returns it explicitly to its general statement; (12) a matter elucidated from its context, or from the following passage; (13) similarly, two passages that contradict one another -- until a third passage comes to reconcile them.

May it be your will, Adonai, our God and the God of our ancestors, that the Holy Temple be rebuilt, speedily in our days, and grant us our share in Your Torah, and may we serve You there with reverence as in the days of old and in former years.

Magnified and sanctified is God’s great name in the world created according to divine will. May God’s majesty reign during your lifetime and throughout your days, and during the life of all the house of Israel, speedily and soon, and let us say, Amen.

Let God’s great Name be blessed forever and for all eternity.

Blessed, praised and glorified, exalted, extolled and honored, magnified and lauded be the Name of the Holy One, though God reigns high above all the blessings and hymns, praises and consolations, which are uttered in this world; and let us say: Amen.

May there be abundant peace from heaven, and life for us and for all Israel; and let us say, Amen.

[Psalm 135]
Praise Adonai. Praise the Name of Adonai; praise God, you servants of Adonai: you that stand in the house of Adonai in the courts of the house of our God. Praise Adonai; for Adonai is good: sing praises unto God's Name; for it is pleasant. For Adonai has chosen Jacob, and Israel for God's peculiar treasure. For I know that Adonai is great, and that our God is above all gods. Whatsoever Adonai pleases, God does, in heaven and in earth, in the seas and in all deeps. God causes vapors to ascent from the ends of the earth, God makes lightnings for the rain; God brings forth the wind out of God's treasuries. It is God who smote the firstborn of Egypt, both of human and beast. God sent signs and wonders into the midst of you, O Egypt, upon Pharaoh, and upon all his servants. It is God who smote great nations, and slew mighty kings; Sihon king of the Amorites, and Og king of Bashan, and all the kingdoms of Canaan: and gave their land for an heritage, an heritage unto Israel God's people. Your Name, O Adonai, endures forever; your fame, O Adonai, throughout all generations. Surely Adonai shall judge the people, and relent towards God's servants. The idols of the heathen are silver and gold, the work of human hands. They have mouths, but they speak not; eyes have they, but they see not; they have ears, but they hear not; neither is there any breath in their mouths. They that make them shall become like unto them; yes every one that trusts in them.(Reader) O house of Israel, bless Adonai: O house of Aaron, bless Adonai: O house of Levi, bless Adonai: you that fear Adonai, bless Adonai. Blessed be Adonai out of Zion, who dwells at Jerusalem. Praise Adonai.

[Psalm 92]
A Psalm, a Song for the Sabbath Day. It is a good thing to give thanks unto God, and to sing praises unto God's Name, O Most High: to declare your lovingkindness in the morning, and your faithfulness every night, with an instrument of ten strings and with a harp, with solemn music upon the lyre. For you, Adonai, have made me rejoice through your work: I will exult in the works of your hands. How great are your works, Adonai: your thoughts are very deep. A brutish man knows it not, neither does a fool understand this: when the wicked sprang up as the grass, and all the workers of iniquity flourished, it was that they might be destroyed forever. But you, Adonai, are on high for evermore. For, lo, your enemies, Adonai, for, lo, your enemies shall perish; all the workers of iniquity shall be scattered. But my strength you have exalted, like that of the wild-ox: I am anointed with fresh oil. My eye has also seen the defeat of my enemies; my ears have heard the doom of them that rose up against me, doers of evil. (Reader) The righteous shall spring up like a palm-tree; and shall grow tall like a cedar in Lebanon. Planted in the house of Adonai, they shall blossom in the courts of our God. They shall still shoot forth in old age; they shall be full of sap and green: to declare that Adonai is upright; God is my Rock, and there is no unrighteousness in God.

Ashrei Psalm 145

Those who dwell in Your house are happy and will be forever praising You. Happy are those who are part of Your people. Happy is the people whose God is the Sovereign.

I will praise You, my God and Sovereign and will bless Your Name forever and ever. Every day I will bless You and praise Your Name forever and ever.

Adonai is great and deserving of excessive praise. God’s greatness lasts throughout the generations. One generation shall describe Your holy acts to another, and shall declare Your acts mighty.

I will meditate on Your majestic glory, and Your marvelous deeds.

People will speak of the might of Your tremendous acts and will recount Your greatness. They will speak of Your famous goodness, and will exult in Your righteousness.

Adonai is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and full of great lovingkindness. Adonai is good to all and exudes tender mercy through God’s holy work.

All Your works will give thanks to You, O God, and Your loved ones will bless You.

They will speak of Your glory and Your power to make known to the world God’s mighty acts, and the majestic glory of the divine kingdom.

Your sovereignty is everlasting. Your reign endures throughout all generations.

Adonai supports all who fall and raises up all those who are bowed down. The eyes of all remain fixed upon You and You give them their food when the time is right.

You open Your hand and spread Your favor over all living creatures. Adonai is righteous in every way and works only through love.

Adonai is near to all who call in truth.

Adonai’s reverent followers will have their desires fulfilled. God will hear their cries and will save them. All who love Adonai will be protected, but all the wicked will be destroyed.

(Reader) My mouth shall express praise for Adonai. May all of humanity learn to bless God’s holy Name forever and ever. We will bless Adonai from this time forth and forevermore. Praise God!

[Psalm 149]
Praise God. Sing unto God a new song; God's praise in the assembly of those that love Adonai. Let Israel rejoice in his Maker: let the children of Zion be glad in their Soveriegn. Let them praise God's Name with the dance: let them sing praises unto God with the timbrel and harp. For Adonai takes pleasure in God's people: God adorns the meek with victory. Let those that love God triumph in glory: let them sing for joy upon their beds. High praises of God are in their throat, and a two-edged sword in their hand; to execute retribution upon the nations, and punishments upon the peoples:(Reader) to bind their kings with chains, and their nobles with fetters of iron, to execute upon them the judgment which is written. God is the honor of all God's loving ones. Praise Adonai.

Then sang Moses and the children of Israel this song unto God, and spoke, saying,
I will sing unto Adonai, for God has been highly exalted: the horse and his rider God has thrown into the sea. Adonai is my strength and song, and God has become my salvation: this is my God, who I will glorify; my ancestor’s God, who I will exalt. God is a man of war: Adonai is his Name. Pharaoh’s chariots and his host God cast into the sea: and his chosen captains are sunk in the Red Sea. The floods cover them: they went down into the depths like a stone. Your right hand, Adonai, is glorious in power, your right hand, Adonai, dashes in pieces the enemy. And in the greatness of your majesty you overthrow them that rise up against you: you send forth your wrath, it consumes them as stubble. And with the blast of your nostrils the waters were piled up, the streams stood upright as an heap; the floods were congealed in the heart of the sea. The enemy said, I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil: my desire shall be satisfied upon them; I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them. You did blow with your wind, the sea covered them: they sank as lead in the mighty waters. Who is like you, Adonai, among the mighty: who is like you, glorious in holiness, revered in praises, doing marvels? You stretched out your right hand, the earth swallowed them. You in your lovingkindness led the people whom you have redeemed: you guided them in your strength to your holy habitation. The peoples have heard it; they tremble: pangs have taken hold of the habitants of Philistia. Then were the dukes of Edom confounded; the mighty people of Moab, trembling takes hold of them: all the inhabitants of Canaan are melted away. Terror and dread fall upon them: by the greatness of your arm they are still as a stone; till your people pass over, Adonai, till the people pass over, that you have acquired. You will bring them in, and plant them in the mountain of your inheritance, the place, Adonai, which you have made for you to dwell in, the sanctuary, Adonai, which your hands have established. Adonai shall reign for ever and ever. ADONAI SHALL REIGN FOR EVER AND EVER. [The kingdom of Adonai endures forever and to all eternity.]
(Reader) For the kingdom is Adonai’s: and God is ruler over the nations. And saviors shall come up on Mount Zion to judge the mount of Esau; and the kingdom shall be Adonai's. AND ADONAI SHALL BE SOVEREIGN OVER ALL THE EARTH; IN THAT DAY SHALL ADONAI BE ONE AND GOD'S NAME ONE.

The breath of every living being shall bless your Name, Adonai our God, and the spirit of all flesh shall ever extol and exalt your fame, O our Sovereign. From everlasting to everlasting you are God; and beside you we have no Sovereign, O you who redeems and saves, set free and deliver, who support and pities in all times of trouble and distress; yes, we have no Ruler but you.

You are God of the first and of the last ages, God of all creatures, God of all generations, adored in innumerable praises, guiding your world with lovingkindness and your creatures with tender mercies. Adonai slumbers not, nor sleeps, God arouses the sleepers and awakens the slumberers; God makes the dumb to speak, sets free the prisoners, supports the falling, and raises up those who are bowed down.

To you alone we give thanks. Were our mouths full of song as the sea, and our tongues of exultation as the multitude of its waves, and our lips of praise as the wide-extended skies; were our eyes shining with light like the sun and the moon, and our hands were spread forth like the eagles of the air, and our feet were swift as the wild deer, we should still be unable to thank you and to bless your Name, O Adonai our God and God of our ancestors, for one thousandth or one ten thousandth part of the bounties which you have bestowed upon our ancestors and upon us. You redeemed us from Egypt, Adonai our God, and released us from the house of bondage; during famine you fed us, and sustained us in plenty; from the sword you rescued us, from pestilence you saved us, and from sore and lingering diseases you delivered us.

Hitherto your tender mercies have helped us, and your lovingkindnesses have not left us: forsake us not, O Adonai our God, for ever. Therefore the limbs which you have planted in us, and the spirit and soul which you have breathed into us, and the tongue which you have set in our mouths, lo, they shall thank, bless, praise, glorify, extol, reverence, hallow and do homage to your Name, O our Ruler. For every mouth shall give thanks unto you, and every tongue shall swear allegiance unto you; every knee shall bow to you, and whatsoever is lofty shall prostrate itself before you. All hearts shall revere you, and our innermost being shall sing unto your Name, according to the word that is written, All my bones shall say, Adonai, who is like you? Thou deliver the poor from those that are stronger than he, the poor and the needy from those that rob him. Who is like you, who is equal to you, who can be compared unto you, O God, great, mighty, and awful, most high God, Maker of heaven and earth? We will praise, laud and glorify you, and we will bless your holy Name, as it is said (A Psalm of David,) Bless Adonai, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless God's holy Name. (Reader) You are God in the vastness of your power, great in your glorious Name, mighty forever and revered by your awe-inspiring acts, the Ruler who sits upon a high and lofty throne.

Chatzi Kaddish

The Chazzan recites the Chatzi Kaddish, with the community responding amen throughout.

Magnified and sanctified is God’s great name in the world created according to Divine will. May God’s majesty reign during your lifetime and throughout your days, and during the life of all the house of Israel , speedily and soon, and let us say, Amen.

Recited by Chazzan and Community in unison.

Let God’s great Name be blessed forever and to all eternity.

May the name of the Holy One be blessed, praised and glorified, exalted, extolled and honored, magnified and lauded: yet, we remember that God exists well beyond any (exceedingly beyond, in fact) the blessings and hymns, praises and consolations that we say here on earth; and let us say, Amen.

God, the Master of all works is ever to be blessed by the mouth of everything that has breath. God’s greatness and goodness fill the universe, surrounded by knowledge and understanding. God is exalted above everything else holy and is adorned in glory above the celestial chariot. Purity and integrity lie before God’s throne, lovingkindness and tender mercy before glory. The luminaries that God created are good: they were formed with knowledge, understanding and discernment. God gave them might and power to rule in the midst of the world. They are full of luster, and they radiate brightness: beautiful is their lustre throughout all the world. They rejoice in their commencement, and are glad in their returning; they perform with awe the will of their Master. Glory and honour they render unto God’s Name, exultation and rejoicing at the fame of God’s sovereignty. God called unto the sun, and it shone forth in light: God looked, and ordained the figure of the moon. All the hosts on high render praise unto God, the Seraphim, the Ophanim and the holy Chayoth ascribing glory and greatness

You have loved us with abounding love, Adonai our God. You have shown us great and overflowing tenderness. O our Master, our Ruler, for our ancestors’ sake, who trusted in You, and whom You taught the statutes of life, be also gracious to us and teach us. O Merciful One, ever compassionate, have mercy on us. Put it into our hearts to understand and to discern, to mark, learn and teach, to heed, to do and to fulfill in love all the words of instruction in Your Torah. Enlighten our eyes in Your Torah, and let our hearts cling to Your commandments, and unify our hearts. Let us love and revere Your Name, so that we will never be put to shame. Because we have trusted in Your holy, great and revered Name, we shall rejoice and be glad in Your saving power. Bring us in peace from the four corners of the earth, and make us go upright to our land, for (Reader) You are a God who works salvation. You have chosen us from all peoples and tongues, and have brought us near to Your great Name forever in faithfulness, that we might in love give thanks to You and proclaim Your unity. Blessed are You, Adonai, who has chosen Your people Israel in love.

Sh'ma שמע

The first line of the Sh'ma is recited out loud and in unison, with the right hand covering the eyes.

Hear, O Israel: Adonai is our God, Adonai is one.

In an undertone:

Blessed is God’s glory forever and ever.

And you shall love Adonai your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might. And these words, which I command you this day, shall be upon your heart: and you shall teach them diligently unto your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up. And you shall bind them for a sign upon your hand, and they shall be for frontlets between your eyes. And you shall write them upon the door-posts of your house, and upon your gates.

And it shall come to pass, if you shall hearken diligently unto my commandments which I command you this day, to love Adonai your God, and to serve God with all your heart and with all your soul, that I will give the rain of your land in its season, the former rain and the latter rain, that you may gather in your corn, and your wine, and your oil. And I will give grass in thy field for your cattle, and you shall eat and be satisfied. Take heed to yourselves, lest your heart be deceived, and you turn aside, and serve other gods, and worship them; and the anger of Adonai be kindled against you, and God shut up the heaven, that there be no rain, and that the land yield not her fruit; and you perish quickly from off the good land which Adonai gave you. Therefore shall you lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul; and you shall bind them for a sign upon your hand, and they shall be for frontlets between your eyes. And you shall teach them your children, talking of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up. And you shall write them upon the doorposts of your house, and upon your gates: that your days may be multiplied, and the days of your children, upon the land which Adonai swore unto your ancestors to give them, as the days of the heavens above the earth.

And Adonai spoke to Moses, saying. Speak to the children of Israel, and bid them that they make them a fringe upon the corners of their garments throughout their generations, and that they put upon the fringe of each corner a cord of blue: and it shall be for you for a fringe, that you may look upon it, and remember all the commandments of Adonai, and do them: and that you go not about after your own heart and your own eyes, after which you go astray: that you may remember and do all my commandments, and be holy unto your God. I am Adonai your God, who brought you out of the Land of Egypt, to be your God: I am Adonai your God.

The Amidah

Avot [v'Imahot] [

Rise for the Amidah and face the Ark.

In some communities it is customary to take three steps backward, then three steps forward and remain standing with your feet together through the entire Amidah.

[In some communities, it is customary to insert the names of the matriarchs included here in brackets.]

Bow as you recite Baruch Atah and then straighten up.

Adonai, open my lips, and my mouth will declare Your praise.

Blessed are You, Adonai our God and God of our ancestors: Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, [Sarah, Rebecca, Leah, and Rachel]. The great, mighty and revered God, the most high God, who bestows lovingkindness, and is Master over all things; who remembers the pious deeds of the patriarchs and matriarchs, and in love will redeem us for their sake.

O Sovereign, Helper, Savior and Shield. Blessed are You, Adonai, the Shield of Abraham [and Sarah].

Each section is recited by the Community and then repeated by the Chazzan.

In some communities, it is customary to rise up on one's toes when saying the lines "Kadosh, Kadosh, Kadosh," "Baruch K'vod" and "Yimloch Adonai."

(Chazzan)

We will sanctify Your Name in the world, even as they sanctify It in the highest heavens, as it is written by the hand of Your prophet: And they called to each other and said: holy, holy, holy is Adonai above all. The whole earth radiates God’s glory. Then with a noise of great rushing, mighty and strong, they make their voices heard, and, upraising themselves towards the Seraphim, they exclaim: blessed be the glory of Adonai from high places. From Your place shine forth, O our Sovereign, and reign over us, for we wait for You. When will You reign in Zion? Speedily, even in our days, go dwell there, and stay forever.

May You be magnified and sanctified in the midst of Jerusalem Your city throughout all generations and for all eternity. Let our eyes behold Your greatness, according to the word that was spoken in the songs of Your righteous servant David: Adonai will reign forever, Your God, O Zion, across all generations. Praise Adonai. Across all generations we will declare Your greatness, and for all eternity we will proclaim Your holiness. Your praise, O God, shall never depart from our mouths, for You are a great and holy God and Sovereign. Blessed are You, Adonai, the holy God.

Yismach Moshe

Moses rejoiced at the lot assigned to him, for You called him a faithful servant: You placed a crown of glory upon his head when he stood before You at Mount Sinai. In his hand he brought down the two tablets of stone, on which are written instructions to observe the Sabbath as it says in Your Torah:

V'lo Na'tato

And you did not bestow it, O Adonai our God, unto the other nations of the earth, nor did you, O our Ruler, make it the heritage of those who worship idols, nor do the unrighteous dwell in its rest; but unto your people Israel you did give it in love, unto the seed of Jacob whom you chose. The people that sanctify the seventh day, even all of them shall be satiated and delighted with your goodness, seeing that you found pleasure in the seventh day, and hallowed it; you called it the desirable of days, in remembrance of the creation.

Modim מודים

Bow as you recite the words "Modim Anachnu Lach."

We give thanks to You and declare Your praise for our lives which are committed to Your service, and for our souls which are in Your control, and for Your miracles which are with us daily, and for Your wonders and Your blessings which are wrought at all times, evening, morning, and afternoon. O You who is all-good, whose mercies never fail; You, merciful Being, whose lovingkindness never ceases, we have place our hope in You.

This Modim is recited during the repetition of the Amidah, while the Leader recites the Modim above.

We gratefully thank You, for it is You Who is God, our God and the God of all flesh, our Molder, the Molder of the Universe. Blessings and thanks are due Your great and holy Name for You have given us life and sustained us. So may You continue to give us life and sustain us and gather our exiles to the courtyards of Your Sanctuary, to observe Your decrees, to do Your will and serve you with all of our hearts. We give thanks to you for inspiring us to thank You. Blessed is the God of thanksgiving.

V'al Kulam

Bow as the blessing "HaTov Shimcha" is recited.

For all these, may your Name be blessed and exalted, our Ruler forever and ever.

And everything that lives will give thanks to You forever and praise Your Name in truth, O God, our salvation and our help. (Selah.) Blessed are You, Adonai, whose Name is all good, and to whom it is most appropriate to give thanks.

May the prayers and supplications of all Israel be acceptable to the One who is in heaven; and let us say: Amen.
May there be abundant peace from heaven, and life for us and for all Israel; and let us say, Amen
May the one who makes peace in high places, make peace for us and for all Israel; and let us say, Amen

The Torah Reading Service

Ein Kamochah

Rise as the Torah service begins with the singing of Ein Kamocha.

There is none like You among the gods, O Holy One. There are no works like Yours. Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and Your rule will endure throughout all generations
Adonai is Sovereign. Adonai was Sovereign. Adonai shall be Sovereign forever and ever. Adonai will give strength to God’s people. Adonai will bless God’s people with peace.

Av Ha-rachamim

Compassionate One, do good with Zion according to Your will; rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. For we trust you alone, O Ruler, God, exalted and uplifted, Master of Worlds.

Vayehi Binsoa

Ark is opened as we begin “Vay’hi Binsoa.”

When the Ark set forward, Moses said, Rise up, O Holy One, and my enemies shall be scattered. For out of Zion shall go forth the Law, and the word of Adonai from Jerusalem. Blessed be the One who, in holiness, gave the Torah to the people Israel.

Brich Shemei

The following prayer is typically recited silently until "Bei Ana Racheitz."

Blessed be the Name of the Sovereign of the universe. Blessed be your crown and your abiding-place. Let your favor rest with your people Israel for ever: show them the redemption of your might in your holy temple. Bestow upon us the benign gift of your light, and in mercy accept our supplications. May it be your will to prolong our life in well-being. Let me also be numbered among the righteous, so that you may be merciful unto me, and have me in your keeping, with all that belong to me and to your people Israel. You are feed and sustain all; you rule over all; you rule over kings, for dominion is yours. I am the servant of the Holy One, who is blessed, before whom and before whose glorious Torah I prostrate myself at all times: not in humans do I put my trust, nor upon any angel do I rely, but upon the God of heaven, who is the God of truth, and whose (Reader) Teaching is truth, and whose prophets are prophets of truth, and who abounds in deeds of goodness and truth. In God I put my trust, and unto God's holy and glorious Name I utter praises. May it be your will to open my heart unto your Teaching, and to fulfill the wishes of my heart and of the hearts of all your people Israel for good, for life, and for peace. (Amen)

Sh'ma Yisrael

Remove the Torah scroll from the ark and give it to the service leader.

The leader then faces the congregation as these two lines are recited responsively.

Hear, O Israel, Adonai is our God; Adonai is One.

ONE IS OUR GOD; GREAT IS OUR LORD; HOLY IS GOD'S NAME.

The leader raises the Torah slightly and the community bows toward the ark as "Gadlu" is recited.

Praise the Holy One with me, and let us exalt the Name together.

The procession of the Torah to the reading table begins.

Lecha Adonai Hagedulah & Procession with the Torah

The service leader turns to the right walks around the community, carrying the Torah to the reading table as the community responds:

Yours, Adonai, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is yours; yours, Adonai, is the kingdom, and the supremacy as head over all. Exalt Adonai our God, and worship in God's temple: holy is Adonai. Exalt Adonai our God, and worship at God's holy mount; for Adonai our God is holy.

Magnified and hallowed, praised and glorified, exalted and extolled above all be the Name of the Supreme Ruler of Rulers, the holy One, who is blessed, in the worlds which God created,—this world and the world to come,—in accordance with God's desire, and with the desire of them that fear God, and of all the house of Israel: the Rock everlasting, the God of all creatures, the God of all souls; who dwells in the wide-extended heights, who inhabits the heaven of heavens of old; whose holiness is above the Chayoth and above the throne of glory. Now,therefore, your Name, Adonai our God, shall be hallowed amongst us in the sight of all living. Let us sing a new song before God, as it is written, Sing unto God, sing praises unto God's Name, extol God who rides upon the heavens, whose name is Adonai, and rejoice before God. And may we see Gpd, eye to eye, when God returns to God's habitation, as it is written, For they shall see eye to eye, when Adonai returns unto Zion. And it is said, And the glory of Adonai shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together; for the mouth of God has spoken it.

May the compassionate One have mercy on the nation born by Them, and may They remember the covenant of the spiritually mighty. May the One rescue our souls from bad times, scold the Evil Inclination to leave those borne by the One, graciously make us an eternal remnant, and fulfill our requests in good measure for redemption and mercy.

Blessing of Torah Before Reading

The scroll of the Torah is undressed and placed upon the reading table.

The service leader calls upon each person receiving an aliyah by his/her hebrew name followed by their father/mother's name.

When called to the Torah, the service leader will point to where the upcoming reading of the Torah begins. Traditionally, the person receiving the aliyah will then touch the corner of their tallit or a piece of the Torah dressing to the margin of the upcoming reading.

Those who are called to the Torah for an Aliyah (the honor of blessing the Torah before and after the reading of the Scroll) say the following blessing before beginning:

Blessed is Adonai who is to be praised.

Blessed is Adonai who is to praised for ever and ever.

Blessed are you Adonai our God, Ruler of the universe who chose us from all the nations and gave us your Torah. Blessed are you Adonai, Giver of the Torah.

Blessing of the Torah After the Reading

After the Torah portion is read, the person called for the aliyah recites the following:

Haggbah (Raising the Torah)

The Torah scroll is raised for the congregation to see, exposing at least 3 columns in the scroll. While the Torah is raised, all say:

And this is the Torah which Moses set before the children of Israel, according to the commandment of Adonai by the hand of Moses.

It is a tree of life to them that grasp it, and of them that uphold it every one is rendered happy. Its ways are ways of pleasantness, and all its paths are peace. Length of days is in its right hand; in its left hand are riches and honor. It pleased Adonai, for God's righteousness’ sake, to magnify the Law and to glorify it.

The Torah is redressed with the tye, cover, and crown in preparation for the Haftarah reading.

Blessing of the Haftorah Before Reading

This blessing is recited by the individual who will recite the Haftarah for the community.

Blessed are you, Adonai our God, Ruler of the universe, who has chosen good prophets, and has found pleasure in their words which were spoken in truth. Blessed are you, Adonai, who has chosen the Torah, and Moses your servant, and Israel your people, and prophets of truth and righteousness.

The Haftarah portion is read in Hebrew or English.

Blessing of the Haftorah After the Reading

After the reading of the Haftorah, the following blessings are recited.

Blessed are you, Adonai, our God, Ruler of the universe, Rock of all worlds, righteous through all generations, O faithful God, who says and does, who speaks and fulfills, all whose words are truth and righteousness. Faithful are you, Adonai our God, and faithful are your words, and not one of your words shall return void, for you are a faithful and merciful God and Ruler. Blessed are you, Adonai, God, who is faithful in all your words.

Have mercy upon Zion, for it is the home of our life, and save her that is grieved in spirit speedily, even in our days. Blessed are you, Adonai, who makes Zion joyful through her children.

Gladden us, Adonai our God, with Elijah the prophet, your servant, and with the kingdom of the house of David, your anointed. Soon may he come and rejoice our hearts. Suffer not a stranger to sit upon his throne, nor let others any longer inherit his glory; for by your holy Name you swore unto him, that his light should not be quenched for ever. Blessed are you, Adonai, the Shield of David.

For the Torah, for the divine service, for the prophets, and for this Sabbath day, which you, Adonai, our God, has given us for holiness and for rest, for honor and for glory,—for all these we thank and bless you, Adonai our God, blessed be your Name by the mouth of every living being continually and for ever. Blessed are you, Adonai, who hallows the Sabbath.

May salvation from heaven, with grace, lovingkindness, mercy, long life, ample sustenance, heavenly aid, health of body, a higher enlightenment, and a living and abiding offspring, that will not break with, nor neglect any of the words of the Torah, be granted unto the teachers and rabbis of the holy community, who are in the land of Israel, and in the land of Babylon, and in all the lands of our dispersion; unto the heads of the academies, the chiefs of the captivity, the heads of the colleges, and the judges in the gates; unto all their disciples, unto all the disciples of their disciples, and unto all who occupy themselves with the study of the Torah. May the Ruler of the universe bless them, prolong their lives, increase their days, and add to their years, and may they be saved and delivered from every trouble and mishap. May the God of heaven be their help at all times and seasons; and let us say, Amen.

May salvation arise from heaven-grace, kindness, compassion, long life, abundant sustenance, heavenly assistance, physical well-being, lofty vision, living and healthy offspring who will neither interrupt nor cease from the world of Torah- to this entire holy community, adults along with children, infants and women. May the Ruler of the Universe bless you, make your lives fruitful, increase your days, and lengthen your years. God who blessed our forefathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob - may God bless this entire holy community along with all the holy communities; them, their wives, sons, and daughters and all that is theirs; and those who dedicate synagogues for prayer and those who enter them to pray, and those who give lamps for illumination and wine for Kiddush and Havdalah, bread for guests and charity for the poor; and all who are involved faithfully in the needs of the community - (Reader) may the Holy One, Blessed is God, pay their reward and remove from them every affliction, heal their entire body and forgive their iniquities, and send blessing and success to all their handiwork, along with all Israel, their brethren. And let us say, Amen.

I will extol you, my God, O Sovereign; and I will bless your Name for ever and ever. Every day will I bless you; and I will praise your Name for ever and ever. Great is Adonai, and exceedingly to be praised: and God's greatness is unsearchable. One generation shall laud your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts. On the majestic glory of your splendor, and on your marvelous deeds, will I meditate. And people shall speak of the might of your tremendous acts; and I will recount your greatness. They shall pour forth the fame of your great goodness, and shall exult in your righteousness. Adonai is gracious and merciful; slow to anger and of great lovingkindness. Adonai is good to all; and God's tender mercies are over all God's works. All your works shall give thanks unto you, Adonai; and your loving ones shall bless thee. They shall speak of the glory of your kingdom, and talk of your power; to make known to the human beings God's mighty acts, and the majestic glory of God's kingdom. Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures throughout all generations. Adonai upholds all that fall, and raises up all those that are bowed down. The eyes of all wait upon you; and you give them their food in due season. You open your hand, and satisfy every living thing with favor. Adonai is righteous in all ways, and loving in all works. Adonai is close unto all them that call upon God, to all that call upon God in truth. Adonai will fulfill the desire of them that revere God; God also will hear their cry, and will save them. Adonai guards all those that love God; but all the wicked will God destroy.(Reader) My mouth shall speak of the praise of Adonai; and let all flesh bless God's holy Name for ever and ever.

But we will bless Adonai from this time forth and for evermore. Praise Adonai.

Yehallelu

Service leader takes the Torah and recites the following as the community rises:

(All respond)

Let them praise the Name of Adonai; for God's Name alone is exalted:

God's majesty is above the earth and heaven; and God exalts the power of God's people, to the praise of all God's loving ones, even of the children of Israel, the people near unto God. Praise Adonai.

Mizmor l'David

As the Torah is carried to the Ark, the community recites the following:

A psalm of David. Ascribe unto Adonai, O you children of might, ascribe unto Adonai glory and strength. Ascribe unto Adonai the glory due unto God's Name; worship Adonai in the beauty of holiness. The voice of Adonai is upon the waters: the God of glory thunders, even God upon the many waters. The voice of Adonai is powerful; the voice of God is full of majesty. The voice of God breaks the cedars; yes, Adonai breaks in pieces the cedars of Lebanon. God makes them also to skip like a calf; Lebanon and Sirion like a young wild-ox. The voice of Adonai hews out flames of fire; the voice of Adonai shakes the wilderness; Adonai shakes the wilderness of Kadesh. The voice of God makes the hind to calve, and strips the forests bare: and in God's temple everything says, Glory. Adonai sat enthroned at the Flood; yes, Adonai sits as Sovereign for ever. Adonai will give strength unto God's people; Adonai will bless God's people with peace.

U'Venucha Yomar

As the Torah is placed into the Ark, the community recites the following:

And when it rested, he said, Return, Adonai, unto the ten thousands of the families of Israel. Arise, Adonai, unto your resting place; you, and the ark of your strength. Let your priests be clothed with righteousness; and let your loving ones shout for joy. For the sake of David your servant, turn not away the face of your anointed. For I give you good doctrine; forsake not my Teaching.

(Reader) It is a tree of life to them that grasp it, and of them that uphold it every one is rendered happy. Its ways are ways of pleasantness, and all its paths are peace. Turn us unto you, Adonai, and we shall return: renew our days as of old.

Magnified and sanctified be God's great Name in the world which God created according to God's will. May God establish God's kingdom during your life and during your days, and during the life of all the house of Israel, even speedily and at a near time, and say you, Amen.

Let God's great Name be blessed for ever and to all eternity.

Blessed, praised and glorified, exalted, extolled and honored, magnified and lauded be the Name of the Holy One, who should be blessed; though God is high above all the blessings and hymns, praises and consolations, which are uttered in the world; and say you, Amen.

Reader.—We will revere and sanctify you according to the mystic utterance of the holy Seraphim, who sanctify your Name in holiness, as it is written by the hand of your prophet, And they called one unto the other and said,

Cong.—HOLY, HOLY, HOLY IS ADONAI OF HOSTS: THE WHOLE EARTH IS FULL OF GOD'S GLORY.

Reader.—God's glory fills the universe: God's ministering angels ask one another, Where is the place of God's glory? Those over against them say, Blessed—

Cong.—BLESSED BE THE GLORY OF ADONAI FROM GOD'S PLACE.

Reader.—From God's place may Adonai turn in mercy and be gracious unto a people who, evening and morning, twice every day, proclaim with constancy the unity of God's Name, saying in love, Hear—

Cong.—HEAR, O ISRAEL: ADONAI IS OUR GOD, ADONAI IS ONE.

Reader.—One is our God; Adonai is our Parent; Adonai is our King; Adonai is our Savior; and God in mercy will let us hear a second time, in the presence of all living (God's promise), “To be to you for a God.”

Cong.—I AM ADONAI YOUR GOD.”

Reader.—And in your Holy Words it is written, saying,

Cong.—ADONAI SHALL REIGN FOR EVER, YOUR GOD, O ZION, UNTO ALL GENERATIONS. PRAISE ADONAI.

Reader.—Unto all generations we will declare your greatness, and to all eternity we will proclaim your holiness, and your praise, O our God, shall not depart from our mouth for ever, for you are a great and holy God and Ruler. Blessed are you, O Adonai, the holy God.

It is our duty to praise the Ruler of all things, to ascribe greatness to the One who formed the world in the beginning. So we bend the knee and offer worship and thanks before the supreme Sovereign of sovereigns, the Holy One, who stretched forth the heavens and laid the foundations of the earth, the seat of whose glory is in the heavens above, and the residence of whose might is in the loftiest heights. Adonai is our God; there is none else: in truth Adonai is our Ruler; there is none else; as it is written in the Torah: “And you shall know this day, and lay it to your heart, that Adonai is God in heaven above and upon the earth beneath: there is none else."

We therefore place our hope in You, Adonai our God, that we may speedily behold the glory of Your might, when You will purify the earth, and righteousness will dominate. When the world will be perfected under the rule of the Almighty, and all the world’s children will call Your Name. When You will turn to Yourself all the evil-doers upon earth. Let all the inhabitants of the world perceive and know that to You every knee must bow, every tongue must swear allegiance. Before You, Adonai our God, let them bow and worship, and to Your glorious Name let them give honor. Let them all accept You and have You reign over them speedily, and forever and ever. The dominion is Yours, and for all eternity You will reign in glory. As it is written in Your Torah, “Adonai shall reign forever and ever.” And it is said, “Adonai shall be ruler over all the Earth: in that day, Adonai shall be One and God’s name shall be One.”

I shall compose pleasant psalms and weave hymns because for You shall my soul pine.

As I speak of Your glory, my heart yearns for Your love.

Therefore I shall speak of Your glories, and Your Name I shall honor with loving songs.

I shall relate Your glory though I see You not; I shall allegorize You, I shall describe You, though i know You not.

Through the hand of Your prophets, through the counsel of Your servants; You allegorized the splendrous glory of Your power.

Your greatness and strength, thehy described the might of Your works.

They allegorized You, but not according to Your reality, and they portrayed You according to Your deeds.

They symbolized You in many varied visions; yet You are a Unity containing all the allegories.

They envisioned in You agedness and virility and the hair of Your head as hoary and jet black.

Aged on judgment day and virile on the day of battle, like a man of war whose powers are many.

The hat of salvation was put on God's head; salvation for God, with God's right hand and arm.

With illuminating dew drops God's head is filled, his locks are the rains of the night.

God shall glory in me for God desires me, and God shall be for me a crown of pride.

A form of the very finest gold upon his head, and carved on his forehead in God's glorious, sacred Name.

For grace and glory the pride of God's splendor; God's nation crowns with prayers.

The tresses of God's head are like those of youthful days, His locks are jet black ringlets.

The Abode of righteousness is the pride of God's splendor; may it be elevated to God's foremost joy.

May God's treasured nation be in hand like a crown, and like a royal tiara the pride of God's splendor.

From infancy God bore them and affixed them as a crown because they are precious in God's eyes and were honored.

God's tefillin-splendor is upon me and my tefillin-splendor is upon God, and God is near to me when I call.

God is white and crimson, garments will be bloody red, when God tramples as in a press on the coming from Edom.

He showed the tefillin-knot to the humble [Moses], the likeness of God before his eyes.

God desires His people and will glorify the humble; enthroned upon praises, God glories with them.

The very beginning of Your word is truth - one read it from the Torah's start; the people that seeks You expounds each generation's fate.

Place the multitude of my songs before You, please; and my glad song bring near to You.

May my praise be a crown for Your head, and may my prayer be accepted like incense.

May the poor man's song be dear in Your eyes, like the song that is sung over Your offerings.

May my blessing rise up upon the head of the Sustainer - Creator, Giver of life, mighty Righteous One.

And to my blessing, nod Your head to me, and take it to Yourself like the finest incense.

May y prayer be sweet to You, for my soul shall pine for you.

Who can express the mighty acts of God? Who can declare all his praise?

The Ark is closed just before reciting the last line.

Closing Songs

Ain K'Eloheinu

Salaam! Od Yavo Shalom

Again peace will be upon us and everyone. Salaam, upon us and upon everyone. Salaam!
